Things that make you go hmmm....

So here i sit in class continuing to here other kids talk about how bad Detroit is and how they never go down there or never will go down there. Its stupidity like this that makes me worry about what the world or maybe just America will come to. How can you live soo close to this city and only have opinion formed by what you hear in the news or read online from other biased reports. These type of stupidity really make me ask myself what the world is coming to and where its going, now i dont claim to be the smartest man or the most exposed person in the world, but i do like to think that i have a pretty good idea of whats out there. But listening to the comments and questions that some people ask or blurt out just baffle me, are people really that stupid or are they just so sheltered in their ways that theyll never change?

Semester in Review

Well here it is the end of the semester and i don't believe this will be my last blog, i actually enjoyed having somewhere to go to post some thoughts that came to me in the middle of the night or the ride about things discussed in class. I feel i got alot out of this class this semester, learned a lot more about what the world really needs to globalize. Went through many obstacles this semester as well that kept me from class and took my attention away from the work that may have required just a little more time, but at the end of the day i survived these obstacles and got things done. the interim project really gave a tough time for i was unable to see my topic in a more expanded creative idea, where as with this final project Cody and i have had some good fun in preparing for after the initial firing squad brought on by Woodward, but we both know he only pushes cause hes expects more from us. so its the night before the last class and as i sit here and reflect on the discussions and notes i can honestly say that my views on what it takes to globalize the world have changed drastically, and have gained a sort of "international" view of the world and how we live in comparison!

Poverty revisited

Woodward made a comment today in class that made rethink about my post on poverty. He said something along the lines of Africa doesn't computers they need health care and food and water. And i know it seems like such a simple and obvious thought but i never really thought about it in that manner, what the hell does a person need the Internet or a cell phone for when they can barely eat or have clean drinking water to survive? Sure they may be able to google where the closest taco bell or McDonalds is but how does this help them in the game of life? Sure these luxuries and convenience have become a way of life in our society, but when it comes down to it they just aren't that important. This is just another example of the people of the US thinking they are doing good by trying to make the rest of the world like our country when in actuality were not helping at all. This example just shows that the people who think they are doing good by imposing "our" ways into their lifestyles instead of finding out what these people need and help them in the manner they call for.

Acceptable?

Tattoos effect on cultures

Tattoos have been an art form and a very useful way for humans to produce a uniquely permanent message on their skin. Foss provides a broad definition of narration: "By narration I refer to a theory of symbolic actions-words and/ or deeds- that have sequence and meaning for those who live, create, or interpret them." Women have used tattoos in reasons of inspiration, faith, motivation, rebellion, and many other narrative passages. In different cultures around the world, people use forms of tattooing as traditional measures and symbolic means. Means that are based on leadership, maturing, inspiration, and definitive cultural signs. These cultural signs represents someones loyalty to a culture, group, gang, or society.

I took this from Cody's blog cause i feel strongly about this topic, i have 6 tattoos but only 3 are visible but should it matter weather they are visible or what they are of that we should judge? If you want to get a job in the "business world" everyone knows that visible tattoos are always a deterrent from getting that job, but why? Is not having an odd hairstyle, or the way you do your makeup, or your physical appearance in general can be a way of self expression and in many other cultures tattoos are just that as well. So in this time of globalization of media and communication why is that tattoos are frowned upon in the business world? Granted as long as it is not an thing sinister and offensive to others i feel that they should be accepted just as any other form of expression.

Poverty

Poverty refers to the condition of not having the means to afford basic human needs such as, clean water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter.

To me there are many different levels of poverty yet i feel that everyone that is in the dire situations are grouped together as one large groups. Poverty can be brought on in many different ways yet everyone is treated the same, some bring it on their selves making one bad decision after another, some are just a product of bad luck, and others just unfortunately are born into this situation and never have a chance from the get go. But as Servaes says in chapter 1 the blaming the victim, this mindset will never help anyone who really needs the since we lump all these less fortunate into the same group regardless of how they got there. I also agree with the point that Servaes makes about poverty as a lack of access and resources, granted some of those who are in these poverty stricken environment really don't want help nor do they seek help, but those who wish to better them selves and get back on their feet do they really have a shot? The resources that are so called available to every are they really? can a hobo on the streets really go to a bank and get a loan for school? Yea the tools are out there to better themselves but with their situations there is a serious lack of access to these tools.

Interim Project and final report

This article i found gave me a good base for reports and a solid place to start. Being able to link these actions to a communication issue. I see that globalizing anything will open communications but how will this work for my report?

Television in Transition

the question posed on the hand out notes for chapter 3 really got me thinking, made me start to realize that the old forms of "screening" television just aren't prevalent anymore. sure stuff on prime time TV slots is edited for content but what are we really being screened from? just because they don't show the whole boob during a sex scene or we don't actually see the bullet enter someones body are we really screening TV? All these new forms of technology allow any users with eht knowledge and now how to access almost anything they seek to see in some form or another weather it be internet, satellite, or even TV on cell phones these days. But as i wrote this and read a little more into the chapter i realized that when asked about screening it is meant in a different way than i had originally thought. I think that the forms of screening that these control groups are faced with there is nothing today that they cannot accomplish. With so many forms of broadcast alleys any type of information and/or ideas they are trying to convey can be seen by interested, intended audiences if that is the information they seek. These new forms of technology give the people of these groups more freedom and availability than ever before to make available what they seek to share.
