Poverty revisited

Woodward made a comment today in class that made rethink about my post on poverty. He said something along the lines of Africa doesn't computers they need health care and food and water. And i know it seems like such a simple and obvious thought but i never really thought about it in that manner, what the hell does a person need the Internet or a cell phone for when they can barely eat or have clean drinking water to survive? Sure they may be able to google where the closest taco bell or McDonalds is but how does this help them in the game of life? Sure these luxuries and convenience have become a way of life in our society, but when it comes down to it they just aren't that important. This is just another example of the people of the US thinking they are doing good by trying to make the rest of the world like our country when in actuality were not helping at all. This example just shows that the people who think they are doing good by imposing "our" ways into their lifestyles instead of finding out what these people need and help them in the manner they call for.
